The goal
The city of Leonberg wants to be able to react more quickly and in a more targeted manner in the event of a disaster. The aim was to set up an operational drone unit to ensure safe and efficient aerial reconnaissance in the event of damage.
To this end, the city of Leonberg has purchased an equipment vehicle specifically for the drone unit and expanded it to meet the needs of drone operations.

The implementation
Droniq supported Leonberg from the outset in setting up the drone unit - from the selection of suitable drone technologyand visualization of the drone to the theoretical and practical training of the emergency services.
A total of 20 members of the civil protection team were trained as professional drone pilots in several training sessions.
The drones used provide detailed aerial images of the situation and make a decisive contribution to the coordination of operations.

Our contribution
Among other things, Droniq provided the necessary drone technology. A particular focus was on training the emergency services so that they could work safely and effectively with the new systems. In addition, Droniq's own HOD4track tracking system was integrated so that flights beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) could also be carried out safely.
Droniq has provided the following service:
- DJI Matrice M350 RTK with H30T (a high-resolution thermal imaging camera that can quickly identify people or hazardous situations in real time) and several DJI Mini 4 Pros.
- Zenmuse P1 with DJI D-RTK 2 Mobile Station (for precise surveying and mapping for a detailed assessment of the situation even in difficult terrain
- a mobile system for ground-based aerial situational awareness (to improve tactical coordination by providing an overview of the entire operational area) and
- our LTE transponder HOD4track (to visualize unmanned flying objects for optimized airspace coordination).

This is what the city of Leonberg's new drone equipment vehicle looks like...
At AERO Drones 2025 in Friedrichshafen, our colleague Phil Stephan took a look inside the new drone equipment vehicle (GW Drohne) together with Jens Schulte from the City of Leonberg / Fire Service and Civil Protection Department. In the interview, he explains how the GW is equipped, what technology has been installed - and what role the drone plays in civil protection.
