Frequently asked questions about refresher training for the Remote Pilot Certificate A2:
Can I also take the A2 refresher training course at Droniq if I obtained my A2 remote pilot certificate in another EU member state?
Yes. The only requirement is that you have a valid A2 remote pilot certificate. According to the legally binding provisions of NfL-2025-2-844 (valid from June 10, 2025), only the valid A2 certificate needs to be checked for the refresher training for renewal – without restriction to a specific member state. Accordingly, it does not matter in which EU member state the certificate was issued.
What documents do I need to submit for renewal as part of the refresher training?
For the extension, the appropriate, valid remote pilot certificate must be provided in each case:
- For A2: a valid A2 remote pilot certificate
- For STS: a valid STS remote pilot certificate
This test is based on the binding requirements of NfL-2025-2-844 and the legally binding decision of the Federal Aviation Authority (LBA) regarding the expansion of the testing center.
What happens after Droniq notifies me of the extension—will I receive a new certificate?
Yes. After Droniq has reported the extension, the Federal Aviation Authority will issue a new remote pilot certificate. This will be issued with an LBA remote pilot ID.
How long is the remote pilot certificate A2 valid for?
The A2 certificate is valid for 5 years in accordance with EU Regulation 2019/947. An extension is only possible within the validity period.
When can I extend my A2 remote pilot certificate?
Renewal is only possible within the 5-year period that is still valid. After this period, renewal is no longer possible, but only a complete new acquisition with examination.
Do I have to take an exam for the extension?
No. The refresher training is purely e-learning without an exam. You complete the online content and then receive a certificate of attendance. Successful participation will be sent directly to the LBA for renewal of your current remote pilot certificate. Please note that the LBA charges a fee (currently EUR 15) for the renewal of the certificate.
What happens after the refresher training?
After successful completion, the Droniq Academy automatically transmits your data to the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA). The extended remote pilot certificate A2 will then be sent to you by email by the LBA.
Note:
The issue, renewal and amendment of certificates are subject to a fee. The LBA charges a fee of EUR 30.00 for issuing a remote pilot certificate A2 for the open category, the renewal fee is EUR 15.00 (source: LBA).
How long does e-learning take?
That depends on your learning pace. As a rule, you should be able to renew your certificate in 1-2 hours. The content can be worked through flexibly and independently of location – ideal for those who are also working.
What requirements must I fulfill?
You need a valid A2 certificate and access to the Droniq Academy. Everything else is online and straightforward.
