Ice Wolf 2025

Maximum drone visibility for a realistic large-scale exercise

The "EISWOLF" reservist exercise is a large-scale exercise with a competitive character for the German Armed Forces. The aim of the exercise is to improve physical performance, military knowledge and basic military skills and to prepare and prepare for new challenges. The exercise also aims to practice and intensify cooperation between German and foreign soldiers as well as cooperation with BOS forces. This year, a total of 154 competitors, made up of reservists and active soldiers from seven European countries, took part in the event. One particular challenge is the efficient coordination of the various units - and drones are playing an increasingly important role here.

Live visualization of the drone airspace

The goal

Droniq's task was to make the drones of the 20 participating BOS forces digitally visible and thus ensure the safe use of drones. These were to support the deployed homeland security forces with reconnaissance flights during the exercise.

The implementation

To make the BOS drones visible and traceable, Droniq equipped them with a drone tag. This tracker is integrated into Droniq's drone traffic management system via mobile radio. In addition, the drone tag transmits the position via Broadcast Remote ID. Among the BOS forces equipped were the information and communication unit (IUK) of the North Friesland district disaster control and Schleswig fire department.

In combination with the TraX live air situation system, also provided by Droniq, the participating BOS forces were able to track the flight movements of their drone at all times. At the same time, TraX shows the drone pilots the surrounding manned and unmanned air traffic. A collision warning also informs the drone pilot of approaching air traffic at an early stage so that they can take evasive action if necessary.

In addition to the BOS forces, Droniq also made the live air situation available to the emergency services of the German Armed Forces and the Federal Police, which provided reconnaissance with a helicopter. Droniq also provided live transmissions to the operations center, where it coordinated the interaction between manned and unmanned air traffic during the event.

Our contribution

Droniq's solutions enable the transparent and safe use of drones.

  • Equipping BOS drones with drone tags to make them digitally visible
  • Provision of the TraX live air situation - both for all BOS forces in order to be able to track the flight movements of the drones, as well as for the armed forces and the federal police
