Thanks to automated exam proctoring with Proctorio, you can take the online exam at any time and from any location. You choose your exam day and can start the exam in the time window from 00:00 to 23:59. The exam is AI-powered proctored to ensure fairness and security.

A PC or laptop with a microphone, webcam and a stable internet connection is required for the online exam. The Google Chrome browser and the Proctorio extension must be installed before the exam. This extension is available in German and English and adapts to the language setting of the browser.

Technical requirements:

• PC/laptop with Windows or macOS

• Microphone and webcam

• Google Chrome Browser

• Proctorio extension (available free of charge at getproctorio.com)

• Stable Internet connection (at least 1 Mbit/s)

To obtain the STS Remote Pilot Certificate, the following requirements must be met:

• Valid identity document (e.g. identity card or passport)
• If applicable, consent of the legal representative(s) on sample form DE.PStF.035 (for minors with a minimum age of 16 years)
• Possession of a remote pilot certificate A2 according to UAS.OPEN.030 or
• Presentation of the A1/A3 certificate of competence in conjunction with the LBA declaration on practical self-training

The online theory exam lasts a maximum of 60 minutes. The exam can be taken flexibly within the specified time window.

The online theory test for the STS remote pilot certificate in the special category can take place at the earliest 7 days after your registration. This gives you enough time to learn and work through the online training, submit all the necessary documents to us and we will check them in accordance with the requirements of the German Federal Aviation Authority.

After receiving the access data for the Aviationexam examination platform, the STS online examination must be taken within the next 6 months. 

Yes, the STS online exam can be repeated after a short waiting period (7 days) in order to obtain the certificate. Further information on repeat examinations can be found in the examination guidelines.

Successfully passed examinations are sent directly to the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA). The STS remote pilot certificate is issued by the LBA.

The STS drone license (officially: EU remote pilot certificate STS) is valid for 5 years. After that, you can easily extend it with STS refresher training.

If you fail the exam, we can provide you with detailed feedback on the failed questions on request, enabling you to prepare specifically for the repeat exam. A repeat examination is only possible by law after 7 days.

Yes, the online exam complies with the highest data protection standards. All personal data is stored and processed securely and all examination processes are designed in accordance with the applicable data protection guidelines.

No, the online exam is available at any time. The exam can be taken flexibly and according to your own schedule within the time window from 00:00 to 23:59.

A quiet, undisturbed location should be chosen for the online exam. A 360-degree room scan is required before the exam and care should be taken to ensure that the PC or laptop with microphone and webcam are working correctly.

Yes and no. Anyone who successfully passes the theory test for the STS remote pilot certificate automatically receives the A2 remote pilot certificate (if one has not yet been issued). For holders of a valid A2 remote pilot certificate, the A2 remote pilot certificate is extended for a further 5 years. The A1/A3 certificate of competence is not included. It must be completed beforehand and is the minimum requirement for admission to the examination to obtain an STS remote pilot certificate. However, an existing A1/A3 certificate of competence is also extended by 5 years with the issue of an STS remote pilot certificate.

The reason: the STS theory test covers all the theoretical content of these certificates. This means that the STS certificate not only entitles the holder to operate in the special category (standard scenarios STS-01 and STS-02), but also includes all rights from the open category (A1, A2 and A3).

Yes, if flight operations are to be carried out in the special category according to standard scenarios (STS-01 and/or STS-02) with C5 or C6 UAS. In this case, the theory test alone is not sufficient. The entry requirement for the practical examination is a passed theory examination for the STS remote pilot certificate. The practical examination can then be taken, in which, in addition to additional theoretical knowledge from the operating manual ( OM), a practical examination must also be passed in which safe handling of the drone is demonstrated. This examination includes the preparation, execution and follow-up of flights according to the standard scenarios (STS-01 and STS-02). Flight operations in the special category according to standard scenarios (STS-01 and/or STS-02) may only commence upon successful completion and issue of the STS accreditation (practical STS license) and the declared operating manual.
