Successful large-scale exercise "FRARescueFusion" with the Johanniter
As part of the “FRARescueFusion” exercise, a realistic large-scale disaster scenario was simulated in Frankfurt—involving approximately 250 emergency responders and about 120 actors playing the roles of injured victims. The exercise, which spanned the entire city, is one of the largest of its kind to date and sets new standards in preparing for complex emergency situations.
Precision from the Air: Applications for Drones
A key component of the exercise was the use of two drones: one DJI M300 and a DJI M4TD. These systems performed critical tasks that are often difficult or time-consuming to carry out on the ground:
- High-altitude rescue: Assistance with evacuation from exposed locations through visual monitoring and situation assessment.
- Aerial surveillance: Providing a comprehensive real-time situational overview for incident command.
- People Search: Efficient scanning of large or difficult-to-access areas using high-resolution sensors.
Connected Airspace for Greater Safety
Both systems were equipped with transponders from Droniq and integrated into TraX – a web app for digital air situation in real time – . This combination enabled emergency responders to visualize their aircraft in real time within the airspace. This allowed them to maintain an overview at all times and to identify and avoid potential conflicts with manned or other unmanned aircraft early on.
Efficiency and Safety Through Integration
The exercise clearly demonstrated how important it is to integrate unmanned aerial vehicles into existing airspace management systems. In disaster response in particular, drones play a crucial role in making operations more efficient, saving lives, and maximizing the safety of emergency responders.
