Review: Droniq Fly Day in Reichelsheim

Guests from Dubai Air Navigation Services visit Droniq

On September 17, 2025, Droniq hosted the Droniq Fly Day at the Reichelsheim airfield. Representatives from Dubai Air Navigation Services (dans) and DFS Aviation Services GmbH attended the event. The aim of the event was to demonstrate the practical use of modern U-space and drone technologies.

U-Space in live operation

For the Fly Day, a U-Space was set up around the airfield and operated under real conditions. The five mandatory U-Space services - network identification service, geo-sensitization service, UAS flight approval, compliance monitoring and traffic information service - were used. Droniq's UTM system was used to demonstrate how drone missions can be planned, approved and monitored - including automatic warnings of approaching manned air traffic or dynamic no-fly zones that prompt the remote pilot to land the drone, for example.

Technologies in use

In addition to the U-Space services, Droniq presented further systems that expand the possibilities for highly automated drone operation beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS):

  • DJI Dock 3
This drone-in-a-box system enables automated drone missions from a distance. The docking station with the drone is connected to the Internet and thus establishes the connection to the ground control station, which can be located virtually anywhere in the world. The drone takes off and lands independently from the docking station, which also serves as a charging and protection station. Such solutions are particularly interesting for regular inspection flights or surveillance tasks and open up prospects for fully automated drone operation.

  • TraX
With this detect-and-avoid web app, all electronically visible (iConspicuity-capable) air traffic participants - drones as well as manned aircraft - can be displayed in real time on a clear user interface. The application supports safe coordination in airspace by making the air situation transparent for all parties involved - among other things through various map layers (e.g. airspace structure, nautical charts, 3D model, etc.), which can be selected flexibly depending on the intended use. TraX is not only suitable for operation within U-Space areas, but is also an ideal system for BVLOS operations outside U-Spaces. With its integrated detect-and-avoid support, TraX demonstrates how the shared use of airspace between manned and unmanned aviation can succeed in practice.

  • Drone detection system
The DDS system combines sensors and antennas to detect drone activity up to 25 km away. Both cooperative drones (with transponder/signal) and uncooperative drones are detected. The results are visualized directly in TraX and supplemented by simple friend/foe detection: registered traffic is displayed as a "friend", unknown objects as a potential threat. This system provides an important basis for protective and defensive measures, especially for critical infrastructures, airports or security-relevant facilities.

A particular highlight was the successful simultaneous use of airspace by drones and manned aviation. The smooth operation demonstrated how U-Space technologies enable the safe integration of unmanned aerial systems.

Thanks to guests and supporters

Droniq would like to thank Dubai Air Navigation Services and DFS Aviation Services GmbH for the professional exchange and the great interest. We would also like to thank the Reichelsheim airfield and Motorflugschule Egelsbach GmbH for their support during the flight operations.

A step towards the future of airspace

The Fly Day provided valuable insights into the practical application of Droniq's systems. It became particularly clear how drones can be reliably and safely integrated into air traffic in the future. The event thus made an important contribution to paving the way for manned and unmanned aviation to work together safely.
