Use of drones for greater safety
Kiel Week is one of the largest sailing events in the world and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Baltic coast every year. For the Kiel fire department, this means an immense challenge - ensuring the safety of the event participants and being able to intervene quickly and in a targeted manner in emergencies. This is precisely where the Kiel Fire Brigade's drone project in collaboration with Droniq comes in, which was tested under real conditions at Kieler Woche.
Drones as eyes from the air: more overview for the emergency services
The idea behind the project: using drones gives the emergency services a comprehensive, airborne view of the situation. Drones enable the fire department to react quickly to changing situations and maintain an overview of the sometimes confusing crowds and terrain. At an event like Kieler Woche, which is spread over a large area, the drone offers decisive advantages. With the help of drones, potential sources of danger can be identified at an early stage and emergency services can be coordinated precisely and promptly on site.
Test at the Kieler Woche: drone flights under real conditions
The practical test at Kieler Woche was a special challenge and opportunity at the same time: Droniq's system, consisting of the UTM (Unmanned Traffic Management) platform and BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) monitoring, was tested under real operating conditions. Droniq's UTM system makes it possible to safely coordinate drone flights even in complex and heavily frequented airspace. The drones were seamlessly monitored and safely controlled by the UTM system in order to provide the emergency services with real-time data and aerial images.
Real-time deployment coordination: a decisive advantage for the fire department
The real-time data from the drones provides valuable information that helps incident command to make faster and more informed decisions. Whether it's crowds, road congestion or hard-to-reach areas - the drone gives the Kiel fire department a significant time and response advantage. Thanks to the live transmission of drone data, incident command is able to react flexibly to changing conditions and efficiently adapt the coordination of the emergency services.
A look into the future: drones in regular use?
The test at Kieler Woche showed how valuable drones can be for coordination and safety at major events. The findings from this project provide valuable insights into the potential of unmanned aerial systems not only for the Kiel fire department, but also for other authorities. The plan for the future is to increasingly integrate drones into the everyday work of emergency services and to use their advantages at other major events or in other emergency situations.
Conclusion: Drones bring safety from the air
The collaboration between Droniq and the Kiel fire department at Kieler Woche has shown how useful and effective the use of drones can be in coordinating operations. The project illustrates the technology's potential for greater safety at major events and paves the way for the regular use of drones in public safety.
