Droniq successfully launches inaugural flight
On September 12, 2024, the Offshore Drone Competence Center (ODCC) in Cuxhaven was officially opened, and Droniq was proud to be an important part of this milestone. As a leading provider of drone technology in Germany, we have a BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) operating license for our fixed-wing drone - a permit that allows us to safely operate drones beyond visual line of sight.
On the occasion of the opening of the ODCC, our colleagues Thilo Vogt, Alexander Tummes and Alexander Wulf successfully carried out the inaugural flight. The flight marks an important step in drone development for offshore operations and shows how drones will play a crucial role in the inspection and maintenance of offshore infrastructure in the future.
The opening of the ODCC provides a central platform for the further development and use of drones in the offshore sector. In the coming years, Droniq will carry out regular drone flights from the site over the North Sea in order to make maintenance and inspections more efficient and safer.
Drone inspections: Efficient and safe
Our fixed-wing drones are ideal for inspection flights over long distances and difficult offshore environments. Thanks to the BVLOS operating license, our drones can also be controlled beyond the pilot's line of sight. This capability is particularly useful for inspecting offshore wind farms, oil platforms and other remote infrastructure on the open sea.
By using our drone technology, inspections can not only be carried out more safely, but also considerably faster and more cost-effectively. Instead of time-consuming on-site operations with ships or helicopters, drones can collect detailed and precise data in a short space of time - and with significantly lower risks for people and materials.
Offshore Drone Competence Center (ODCC): A new step towards innovation
The ODCC was opened in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials (IFAM) and will provide an excellent environment for testing and further developing drone technologies in the offshore sector. New applications and technologies will be developed here that are particularly tailored to the demanding conditions on the high seas.
The ODCC is intended to create a central point of contact for companies and research institutions that want to research and optimize the use of drones in offshore environments. As an important player in this field, Droniq will continue to play a key role in the further development and practical application of drone technologies.
Looking to the future: regular flights over the North Sea
The successful inaugural flight marks the beginning of a new era for Droniq in the field of offshore inspections. In the future, our fixed-wing drone will regularly take off from the ODCC and fly over the North Sea to carry out maintenance and inspections on wind turbines, oil platforms and other offshore infrastructure. Thanks to our BVLOS approval, we are able to carry out these flights efficiently and safely and thus make an important contribution to optimizing offshore maintenance.
