Droniq takes the chemical company Röhm into the air

Frankfurt, 18.01.2024 - The plant fire brigade of Röhm GmbH builds its drone segment expanded. In addition to the use of drones for fire and plant protection, the company will in future be using the flying helpers to support maintenance and repair work. To carry out this work at the Worms and Weiterstadt sites in Worms and Weiterstadt, has Röhm commissioned Droniq GmbH to the safe drone operation and for this to apply for an operating license in the special category. This is now available.

Compared to drones for leisure applications, industrial drones are larger and heavier. They have a higher load capacity and can therefore use or carry more sensors, cameras or payloads.

By using industrial drones, Röhm's plant fire department is expanding its range of operations. In addition to situation reconnaissance as part of firefighting operations, the drones are also used to document construction projects. Other applications include roof inspections and pipeline inspections, chimney and industrial flare flights as well as georeferenced surveys. Röhm will be using a DJI M30 T for these applications in future. This weighs just under four kilograms.

In the so-called special category, drone operators must apply for an operating permit. Depending on the federal state, the respective state aviation authority or the Federal Aviation Office (LBA) is responsible for this. Operators must provide several pieces of evidence for the operating permit. In addition to a comprehensive operating description, this includes a risk assessment of the planned drone flight. The assessment includes aspects such as the airspace conditions, the flight altitude, the surroundings and the potential risks for people on the ground. In the case of Röhm, Droniq coordinated the entire application process. All the necessary documents were prepared in close consultation with the plant fire department as the drone operator.

"More and more companies know how they can use drones efficiently," says Droniq CEO Jan-Eric Putze. "However, applying for flights is complex and time-consuming for many companies, as this requires aviation knowledge. We take this work off the companies' hands. We take care of the entire approval process and the integration of the drone into operations, ensuring that the drone gets to where it belongs as quickly as possible: in the air."

"Röhm began integrating drones into existing work processes back in 2016," says Thorsten Edling, Head of Plant Safety at Röhm GmbH. "We have had very good experience with this, especially with the plant fire department, which is why we are expanding this segment. With Droniq, we have a partner who supports us in terms of the right equipment and in obtaining the relevant operating license."

The operating permit applies to the entire factory premises of the Röhm sites in Worms and Weiterstadt. It initially only allows drone flights to be carried out within the pilot's visual line of sight (VLOS). Parallel to the introduction of approved drone operations, Röhm and Droniq are working on an application for a permit to carry out flights beyond the visual line of sight of the remote pilot (BVLOS).

About Droniq GmbH
Droniq GmbH is a joint venture founded in 2019 by DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung (51% share) and Deutsche Telekom (49% share). Based in Frankfurt am Main, the company has set itself the task of promoting the professional and safe use of drones by authorities and organizations with security tasks as well as by companies.

With this system, which is unique in Germany, Droniq creates the basis for using drones safely beyond visual range.

Other services offered by Droniq include the sale of drones for commercial and official drone use as well as hardware and software solutions for safe operation. It also supports its customers in applying for operating licenses and advises on mission planning.
