"NEU START" Event at the Cottbus/Neuhausen Airfield

An aviation weekend showcases the future of aviation

Last weekend, the Cottbus-Neuhausen airfield showcased the results of years of preparation: Through the “NEU START” event, the site presented itself as an emerging hub for aviation and drone technology—while also demonstrating the potential of the Lusatia region.

A modernized site with a clear vision

The groundwork for this development was laid in recent years. With its new runway, approximately 1,080 meters long, modern flight operations infrastructure, and about nine hectares of commercial land ready for immediate development, the Neuhausen Airport has undergone significant expansion.

But NEU START has shown that it is no longer just about traditional aviation.

NEU START brings innovation to life

The aviation weekend brought together industry professionals, businesses, and politicians, as well as many technology enthusiasts and families. Flight demonstrations, drone races, and exhibitions brought technological developments to life.

The discussion focused in particular on topics such as:

  • autonomous aviation
  • new mobility solutions
  • specific drone applications, such as in logistics or industry

The event was thus much more than just an air show—it served as a showcase for the region and its future.

BVLOS Area Lausitz: The Key to Scalable Drone Applications

A key topic was the BVLOS Area Lausitz —a testing and application site for drone flights beyond visual line of sight.

This type of operation is crucial for deploying drones in a cost-effective and scalable manner. The applications presented and discussed at the event clearly demonstrate this potential:

  • Transportation of medical supplies
  • automated inspections
  • Applications in agriculture and forestry

The combination of infrastructure, technology, and regulatory frameworks is creating the conditions for a new economic sector.

Droniq: Your Partner for Safe Drone Operations

Droniq is actively involved in building this infrastructure. The goal is to safely integrate drones into existing airspace, thereby paving the way for sustainable BVLOS operations.

“Autonomous aviation will play a central role in the economy and society in the future. The BVLOS Area Lausitz will provide a crucial foundation for safe and scalable drone operations,” says our CEO, Jan-Eric Putze.

A coordinated and transparent airspace is essential, especially for flights beyond visual line of sight. This is where Droniq brings its expertise to bear, helping to establish the necessary infrastructure.

Conclusion: A visible new beginning

NEU START has impressively demonstrated how a location can reposition itself as a hub for innovation, collaboration, and economic development.

For Droniq, one thing is clear: projects like the BVLOS Area Lausitz are crucial for transitioning drone applications from pilot projects to routine operations.

The launch in Neuhausen is therefore more than just a single event—it is a step toward a new form of aviation.
