Major military exercise
"Air Defender 2023"

Today marks the start of a major exercise called "Air Defender 2023" in German and neighboring airspace, organized by the German Armed For ces together with their NATO partners until June 23, 2023. For this purpose, there are temporary flight restrictions in certain areas in Germany.

For drone pilots, that means:
  • In the east, south and north exercise areas, airspace will be temporarily off-limits to other air traffic.
  • The greatest restriction arises in the ED-R East Fight 1 area, since here the flight restriction already extends upward from the surface of the earth. The other exercise areas refer to the higher airspaces, therefore there are no restrictions for the use of drones with a flight altitude of up to 120 m here.
All further details, especially time restrictions, can be found at DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung:

According to current aviation law, unauthorized entry into a restricted flight area is a criminal offense. Therefore, our tip: Simply fly your drone on the weekend during this period, then there will be no legal difficulties.
